Apart from the Muslim women, the status of women in general has failed to improve, especially in the developing countries.
In South Africa there were around 55,000 rape cases in a year. More horrifying is that many of such cases go unreported. Not only this there are many cases of wife beating, murder etc. Similar is the condition of women in Kenya.
