A lot many changes are happening these days. Off late, it is the UN committee on Elimination of Discrimination Against women who is appealing the Philippine government to make changes in the Islamic laws so that the rights of the Muslim women in the nation are secure.
The aim behind this entire issue raised by the committee is to do away with early marriage of the girls that prevails largely in the Muslim community. The committee particularly highlighted about the practice of ‘polygamy and arranged marriages’, which makes the life of the innocent girl a hell.
Furthermore, there are many other reasons such as the degenerating situation that women in the indigenous community are facing and also the unavailability of proper health facilities, lack of education and the basic amenities in life, which the UN committee is concerned about.
All these factors are close enough to make the government do something as soon as possible before the situation gets any graver.
