UK: Muslims would have to reveal their identities

From now, onwards women in burqa would now have to reveal their face in order to disclose their identities at the UK airport. The immigration officials made such a move after it assumed that a suspected police killer might have escaped from the nation dressed as a Muslim woman. However, the move has created a spark among the community according to whom, it would impose unbearable demands on their members, particularly female officers who would be the only ones allowed looking under veils. Previously, the officers used to wave off passengers without scrutinizing because of the shortage of time but the recent incident where, an asylum seeker Mustaf Jama who was wanted for the murder of Pc Sharon Beshenivsky escaped using her sister’s passport created a very critical situation for them. Thus, authorities came out with the idea, which would legally entitle them to ask any female passenger to lift her veil in order to verify her identity against passport photographs. In order to stress the idea, Prime Minister Tony Blair said, ‘We must find methods of allowing people to take off the veil in a way that’s dignified.’ Personally, I feel that all must be equal under the eye of law and disclosing ones, identity at the airports shouldn’t be a tough job for the women folk. After all, it is the question of our social security; moreover, the authorities have no hassles if they remain in the clad during their stay. So I guess, there shouldn’t be any kind of fuss over the issue. Read

Aswad’s murder ignites condemnation all over the province

Clouds of sectarian violence could be anticipated between Muslims and Yazidis in Kurdistan Region. The killing of young girl Du’a Khalil Aswad has ignited sparks in the Province. It’s bad enough that this woman’s male family members murdered her. But not only that, a mob of men viewed this whole event as if it were entertainment. They filmed it with camera phones and jeered and encouraged it. And they did nothing to stop it. Now, in retaliation to the event, women in huge numbers could be seen flocking the streets in Kurdistan Region hence, the government has called for the murderers to be brought to justice. In a statement, the protesters said, We do strongly condemn the killing of women under the pretext of honor and the killing and mutilating of the body of Du’a on April 7, 2007. Taking revenge on women under the pretext of honor is a terrorist act, read a banner carried by the demonstrators. The protesters have urged the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to take strict measures against the perpetrators. Kurdistan Parliament’s Deputy Speaker, Kamal Kirkuki stated that, This crime has touched off a desperate attempt to disrupt the peaceful coexistence between Muslim and Yazidi Kurds, and the majority of those who carried out this crime are now under arrest and will be tried according to law. The incident is the second in a series of sectarian incidents between the Yazidis and Muslims in the area. Last year, a group of Muslim tribesmen attacked several Yazidi buildings in Shekhan, a district east of Mosul, because of honor issues sparked over the fate of a Muslim girl. In the meantime, Kurdish authorities have vowed to follow up on the issue by establishing an investigative committee. There are frequent reports of ‘honour crimes’ in Iraq – in particular in the predominantly Kurdish north of the country. Most victims of ‘honour crimes’ are women and girls who are considered by their male relatives and others to have shamed the women’s families by immoral behavior. While the Kurdish authorities introduced legal reforms to address ‘honour killings’ they have, however, failed to investigate and prosecute those responsible for such crimes. The Kurdistan government, who originally did nothing in reaction to this event, have now stated – after their dirty little secrets were exposed to the world via the internet – that these men will be punished. Hmm… we’ll see! These people- who jeered and encouraged the incident- see themselves as getting rid of another sinning person but how can one pass judgment like that when committing a crime themselves. I say to these people you are a joke; your beliefs are a joke. Image Read

Muslims Should Love Their Pets, Too

Just because a person has submitted their life to God, does not mean that they must give up the joys and comforts which pets can provide to them. If God has created a creature and allowed it to grow amicable to man kind, why would it be wrong for us to make them pets? Why would it be wrong for us to give them food, petmeds, and a space in our homes in which they can sleep? Of course, God does not forbid these things, and may even be blessing us with the ability to use animals to help upgrade our way of life. Take camels, for instance. The camel is very much the perfect animal, not only for living in a desert area, but for aiding humans in living in such desert lands. The camel’s hoof pads spread out widely, so that the animal does not sink. They have special muscles in their nostrils, so that sand does not enter them. They have abundant hair inside and outside of their ears, so that sand does not penetrate and cause harm there. Their eyes have thick lashes, eye brows and eye lids, also to protect against the sand. And the camel’s face is designed to protect it against the Sun’s beating rays. And best of all, a camel’s hump is a lump of fat on which it can live for days, if its food should become scarce. Now THAT is a pet. And indeed, is not every animal that God has created miraculous in some way? That each animal is made specifically to fit into where it lives, and can overcome what would seem to be impossible, is a testament to God’s grace at sparing them. So why should we not keep animals as our pets? Is not doing so an act of veneration for God’s creations?
