What can be called a travesty of judiciary, the Saudi Arabia’s Higher Judicial Council has actually sentenced a rape victim to receive 200 lashes and prison while the perpetrators of humanity’s most heinous crime were allowed to walk free.
The 19-year-old Shiite woman who was raped by six armed men was originally sentenced to receive 90 lashes for traveling in the car of an ‘unrelated male’ at the time of the rape. However after the woman had the temerity of not unquestioningly submitting herself to be tortured as punishment of being raped, the judges on Saudi Arabia’s Higher Judicial Council more than doubled her punishment for attempting to influence the judiciary through the media.
Her lawyer, human right activist Abdul Rahman al-Lahem, has been banned from carrying her case further. His license has been revoked and he has been called to appear before a disciplinary committee for challenging the judgment, which only punished the victim of the crime and not its perpetrators. The Sunni rapists were given a paltry sentence of one to five years of imprisonment.
This is the horrendous state of a country that keeps its women forcefully behind veils only to extenuate and encourage heinous crimes against them in the name of maintaining social discipline.

And these articles are not even from a true muslim woman or a non-muslim person that has studied Islam and know the true Religion and know that things that are happening in muslim countries to some muslim women are Cultural or Traditional ways and complications. We are not perfect in anyway and never will be perfect. So in every religion, there are what you call extremist ((–noun 1. a person who goes to extremes, esp. in political matters.

That in itself should be the crime..Do women generally get charged in rapes? Do many come forward after being raped? It’s seems the way justice turns on them, most would, sadly, rather suffer in silence...Do women actually survive 200 lashes? It seems the punishment itself, would be the same as a death sentence.?
In most of the Muslim countries world over,women are not treated equally.Their condition,some times worse than an animal and these women doesnt fights for their right.

Well to be honest, this site seems fairly biased and propagandistic...
I really do try and understand and tolerate other’s ways of being,but I find very little that is redeeming in the practice Islam or any religion for that matter. I don’t think humans will long survive on this planet until we all grow up and escape the hellish enslavement that is religion. Peace to everyone.
This is in NO way a defence of what happened here. It is atrocious and vile and inhuman.
It is also the way of that culture in that part of the world. Saudi Arabia is awash in western money but rooted for the past century in Wahhabi Islam, a fundamentalist, expansionist sect intolerant of even other branches is Islam.
Such treatment of women is inherent in their culture and all the huffing and puffing from us liberal democratic westerners won’t change a thing unless we are willing and able to put pressure on the Saudis and risk alienation that could dry up or destabilise the oil/money supply. And probably not even then, because that would feed their xenophobic paranoia about non-Wahhabi outsiders.
This truly makes me sick. Any man that thinks this is right or that women are not equal is not and will never be a man. I try so hard to respect Islam although when I hear of these heinous vile crimes against women I start to believe that Islam was just created to oppress and imprison women to be used only as a commodity for pleasure, just as the clearly ”honorable” Ramesh Balam has already stated. Muslim men commit the most grotesque crimes against their wives, daughters, sisters and fellow humans and really, this reaction comes from scared, controlling and evil men that want to feel superior and good about themselves by suppressing the opposite sex. There is something seriously wrong with society when these men feel masculine by committing honor killings, gang rapes, physically, emotionally or verbally abusing women. Any man that does this, regardless of religion although characteristic to Islam, is just a scared undeveloped little boy in a big mans body, looking for recognition from their older role models.
Yes, men and womens bodies are different, however men - of all religion and races - should cherish the female body, not try and hide and imprison it while veils or burqa.
