October 8 earthquake in Pakistan destroyed the life of many a homes and shattered the budding dream of many youngsters. However, as the saying goes, ‘only if you dream, you will achieve’, many young girls in Pakistan are being encouraged by the relief workers who came down to help the quake victims.
Nasreen, a ten-year-old girl, in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad is busy playing the role of a doctor along with her friends. All these girls are enacting the role of woman doctors.
Where do you think, such young hearts got the idea?
These girls watched hundreds of volunteer, working day and night trying to heal the wounds of the quake victims. The volunteers and relief workers seem to have awakened a new spirit in these girls and many others like them.
Nasreen has an eight-year-old sister. Her name is Noor. Their father is a local shopkeeper, who wants both his daughters to study medicine, despite the fact that they are not yet enrolled in the primary school until date.
When interviewed by IRIN, Nasreen, the soft-spoken girl said:
I saw women here who helped the injured people and injected babies so they would not get sick. I want to be like them.
She is one among the fortunate ones because her father too supports her decision. Only if all the parents think alike, the percentage of women literacy will automatically shoot up in Pakistan.
