It is rather strange that women would themselves call upon for the lashing of the society, if a woman has been a victim of rape. While there are few women right activists who are bargaining hard with the religious parties and the Pakistani government to reform the rigid Hudood Ordinance, Jamaat-i-Islami, one of Pakistan’s leading fundamentalist party marched out in stiff opposition against any sort of amendment in the adultery law.

In Lahore, a group of female activist from Jammat-i-Islami took out a rally against any such changes
. Whereas on the other hand general Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz is trying to push forward all the parties, to come to a unanimous decision regarding the changes in the rape law, so that women folks across the country can have a secured life.

While several parties are trying to make it, one strong party is trying to break it. One can very well understand the position of the Pakistani government, who is caught up in between.

I would say right now that the government is thinking in the line of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, “To be or not to be“...
