zilla-huma-usman_50A Pakistani female provincial minister and supporter of President Pervez Musharraf have been shot dead by an assumed Islamic militant.

Zilla Huma Usman, 35, was working as a women’s rights activist and had previously promoted a mini-marathon involving female runners that sparked riots in 2005.

She was murdered because she was not clad in Muslim attire and was actively involved in women emancipation.

The gunman, Mohammad Sarwar, was arrested immediately thereafter. He is a stone mason by occupation and is not considered to be in the radical group, but is considered a fanatic. He is supposed to have killed and mutilated four prostitutes in 2002 but was never convicted because of lack of evidence.

A fanatic killed her just because she was not in traditional dress! This shows, the kind of law and order operating in Pakistan.
