Life for women in Pakistan is not that easy as they are daily subjugated to domestic abuse. Efforts however are being made by many women activists to struggle against the monarchy laid down by many religious leaders.
An event titled ‘Celebrating Pakistani women‘ was organized at Tufts University in Medford to discuss about the problems faced by the Pakistan, mainly the women community.
More than 200 people attending the event listened with pin drop silence to the barbaric ‘council-condoned’ gang rape of Mukhtaran Mai. She ventilated before the audience her pent up emotions and said that now she is trying to start two schools in the village where she grew up.
There are many such cases, which hardly come to our notice as the accused forces the victims to stay quite or pay the price.
The focus of the event was to highlight women working on every field and how they are at par with the women worldwide.
Remember that it is the nation itself, which provides ample negative news to the world because of its conservative practices.
If the government wants to create a positive image of the Pakistani women first it should itself avoid all the violent practices like ‘honor killing’ and then direct the media to project more positive stories.
