This was for the first time that the women were given the opportunity to vote in Saudi Arabia.
However, officials expressed their disappointment over the low vote turnout of women in an election. Around 62 women from 2,800 registered female voters came to the chamber for voting on Saturday and early Sunday, the two days which were set exclusively for female voters.
The sources hoped that the women will come out to vote for 17 women businesswomen competing against 54 men, for the seat of the Jeddah Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
