In a recent case around two hundred Muslim women are head to head with the Fitness USA, chain of gyms, over the issue of gender specific days. It is alleged that many of them had taken lifetime membership just due to the reason that Fitness USA had promised to open its Lincoln Park facility only for women on certain days.



The gym, however, failed to stand straight to the promise as it decided to open a part of the center for both sexes every day. On this, Muslim women felt cheated. Now, they have taken this issue very seriously and they are in regular consultation with the higher authorities of USA Fitness.



What’s more, they have already signed a petition urging the authority either to return to gender specific days for the entire gym or to erect a divider so that both genders can not see each other while exercising.



The final decision is of course yet to come. But it surely represented a classical example of liberal Muslim women, trying to strike a fine balance between Islamic tradition and modernity.
