Arab women have always been a centre of attraction for artists worldwide, from Riyadh to the western countries.
Recently, Newburyport artist Pula Estey organized an exhibition where she displayed mixed-media paintings of the Arab women all highlighting a very mournful look.
Estey said that she took the inspiration for the pictures that she discovered in the internet. The pictures were that of the strife-stricken state of the people living in Iraq and Afghanistan.
All she did was re-capturing the emotions and the hardships faced by these silent souls, who seemed to be lost in ‘despair and grief’.
Estey said:
The paintings are my way of witnessing these women, women who I do not know, but know deeply because I have spent so much time with them interpreting and recreating.
Very truly said, because the image that comes to our minds whenever we think of the Arab women is mostly that of the sorrowful haunting eyes looking for some solace and security in the midst of the raging fire.
