Saudi Women

There seems to be a fiery ripple in the air of Riyadh with the latest initiative taken by the government.

In few of the modernized stalls at the Al Faisaliah shopping in Riyadh, an embarrassing exchange is taking place between a veiled woman customer and a male salesman at a lingerie store. But the ambience is somewhat more comfortable in the Kingdom Tower mall where the entire section is occupied by women.

The question here is does the female customer feel relaxed when she has to deal with a male sales person. This is what is creating a dogma in the Saudi Society.

With the government’s new decision announced, there is an enigmatic debate going on in the community. Starting from June 22nd, all the stores related to women products will have all female sales persons and if anyone is found violating the rule they will have to pay fines.

This has led the customer experts to comment that this kind of law is not going to boost up the sales.

A survey carried out in Jeddah revealed the fact that out of 247 lingerie stores in Jeddah only three stores has women sales persons.

What can we decipher from this fact? Are the store owners against the government’s new move to provide more employment to women’s? If it is so what should be the next step of the government?
