With the increasing influence of the Fundamentalist Islamists in Iraq, the discrimination of the Iraqi women has taken a bitter U Turn. Despite many of the daring women rights activists trying to safeguard the women community, the situation is deteriorating day by day.

Due to the declining phase of Iraq’s security system, women’s rights are also facing a severe crisis. Iraqi women today cannot even think of driving alone in the streets fearing the threats that they receive every day.

The life for those Iraqi women living in Amariyah, a region in Western Baghdad is worsening as they are receiving threatening fliers ordering them not to drive and few says that are also being asked to stay away from the market place.

Recently, a dead body of a woman was found in the neighborhood and local suspects that she was killed for driving.

What kind of mentality is this? How can anyone kill someone just because she was driving a car?

However, in a recent speech Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki made a promise saying that he will work hard to improve the status of women. This has greatly lifted up the moral of many women members of the parliament.
