The highest European court has issued a verdict this month that the Turkish ban on the headscarf of Muslim women is legal and in accordance to the human rights. This was the final verdict in the case brought by Layala Sahin, a medical student, who was prohibited to wear veil in the college.
The panel of 17 judges opined that the ban does not in any way violate the freedom, though, conscience and religion of the Muslim women. The ban was laid so as to safeguard women’s right in the constitution and to maintain public order.
