According to the social welfare official in Iran around two- third of the Iranian women have suffered domestic violence and a quarter are unhappy with their gender.
Sociologist Jaleh Shaditalab of Iran’s National Welfare Organization, said that most of women are forced into marriage. She also added that the abuse not only means sexual harassment but also include mental torture, humiliation and not given the opportunity to work.
UN’s top official on women’s rights, Yakin Erturk, opined that abuses and discrimination are due to the Islamic republic’s law which makes it difficult for the women to escape violence through divorce.
