Muslim Women



Since the time of the greatest Cultural Revolution in China, a huge barrier has divided the entire Chinese communities. The midlands people barely mix with the outlander and if anyone happens to violate the rules, they are blamed as traitors.



On the other hand, the aftermath of the revolution has given rise to a new form of reawakening among the otherwise silent spectators- the Muslim women.



A handful of nearly 50 Chinese Muslim women Imams are taking the entire nation by storm. The reason, unlike all the other predominantly Islamic nations: these Women Imams are leading prayers and educating the women devotees on religious issues.



61 year-old Wang Shan Zhen is one of the ‘new age’ Imams who lead prayers, closely followed by her 50 women devotees, who in a harmonious chorus repeat the Arabic verses that she chants.



This new movement clearly indicates the resurrection of the Muslim women in China, who are making it known to everyone that they too have a say over their religious rights.
