Since time immemorial women in Islam has been denied the rights to exercise her freedom - be it working independently, taking decisions about her life, or running for election. Muslim women never got her share of liberty.
43-year-old Ingrid Mattson, born in Canada and an Islamic convert has always felt that the male chauvinists and the religious leaders always dominate women under the Islam religion.
However, for Ingrid things have taken a better shape since the day she joined the Connecticut’s Hartford Seminary as a professor for the Islamic studies and Christian-Muslim relations.
One will hardly come across any Muslim women who is designated the top position in well-known organization; nevertheless, Ingrid is selected as the first female President of the biggest and oldest Islamic society located in North America.
