The post-divorce phase for the women of the Islamic world is full of harsh realities in life. They have to bring up the children all alone if they are not offered any alimony from their husbands and most of the times, they are left with nothing.
A single visit to Kano in Nigeria will open up your eyes to the largest group of divorcees in the country, all thrown out of their home for some irrelevant reasons.
Nearly 70 women gather daily in a primary school in Kano where they are receiving knowledge on nutrition-related subjects from an enthusiastic woman.
All these women are members of the sisterhood group call ‘Bazawara’ who are kicked out by their spouses and now struggling hard together and meeting all the twists and turns of a lonely life.
Kano alone is crowded with almost 350,000 divorced women according to a research conducted recently.
Kudos to this brave woman Saadiya Sarki the founder of the sisterhood group, who has dedicated her life in grooming up these young vulnerable women, so that they can make a life of their own.
