How can anyone expect to protect oneself from a deadly disease when he or she has the least knowledge about it?
According to a UN study, a majority of the Bahraini women do not know the root cause of AIDS. More than 60% of the women said that they could be on guard against touching any HIV+ person and this will protect them from catching the disease.
40% believe that AIDS can be avoided by shunning the use of public rest rooms, mosquito bites etc, and 44% were ignorant about the fact that, the use of condoms while having sex is the beast possible way to avoid this disease.
The target behind this survey was to see to what level the women are aware of AIDS related problems. An awareness campaign is scheduled to kick off in the month of December to work upon the stigma surrounding AIDS among the Bahraini women.
