A new law in Bahrain has granted seventeen Bahraini women government homes. This is the first time that 17 women - widows, spinsters and divorcees are being approved for this special category of privilege.
The deeds to the new homes were handed over to the recipients by Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, and the chairwoman of Supreme Council for Women.
On this occasion, Lulwa Al Awadhi the secretary general for the council said:
It is an important step that strengthens the legal rights of women, who are playing an increasingly important role in society.
Earlier, houses were granted to few needy ones, but this is the first time that the law has been rectified, keeping in mind the basic necessity of those women in Bahrain, who are struggling to keep their family alive all by themselves.
