With the ongoing Israel-Lebanon conflict becoming dangerous every moment, most of the channels are daily trying to give regular updates from the war-afflicted areas.
There is a new face of the Arab and the Iraqi women, which the world is getting a glimpse of these days. While male anchors are found reporting from the safe zone of Al-Jazeera studio located in Doha, two female reporters were reporting live from the bombing areas of Israel and Lebanon.
On the very first day of the onslaught of the Israel’s attack on Lebanon, female reporters took up their arms and are since then reporting live, braving their way through all the bombarding shells, and even risking their lives.
Some have survived so far but many have lost their lives while reporting from the violence-wrecked regions. One among them is the Freelance photographer from Lebanon.
23-year-old, Layal Nagib’s taxi was hit by an Israeli missile while she was on her way to the southern part of Lebanon. This however is not deterring the other female reporters who are doing an excellent job on both the sides of the Lebanon-Israel frontline.
There are not many women workers in the Middle Eastern society due to the aged old patriarchal order but since the last few days, there is a sea-change that one can witness in the Audio Visual media, wherein women reporter are fast taking over their male colleagues.
Katia is one of the female reporters who have done a great job. She says that it can be too scary at times, but once you go live in the air your fear goes down.
In Katia’s words:
Humans were more important for me than anything else happening on the ground. This was my people being hit. On air, I separated between personal feelings and pure reporting, but — off air — I cried twice.
